Artist member since 2019
Toronto, Ontario
Ahlena Sultana-McGarry is a Pakistani-Canadian cross-disciplinary artist whose work delves into the intricate relationship between memory, dreams, and the ever-changing natural world. Rooted in both personal and ancestral connections to the land, Ahlena’s art captures the fluidity of place, identity, and the passage of time. Her fragmented yet organic compositions reflect the layered nature of memory—how it evolves, fades, and is reimagined through dreams and lived experiences. By incorporating photographs, textures, and elements from both natural and cultural landscapes, she explores how we internalize and carry place within us, and how these landscapes—shifting through environmental change—continue to shape our identities. Ahlena’s work invites reflection on the ways in which place, time, and memory intersect, offering a contemplative space to consider the personal and collective relationship to the land and the constant transformation of the world around us.
